The Awakened Family – How to Raise Empowered, Resilient, and Conscious Children

The time for a new beginning has arrived,

Where family is no longer the chain that binds us

But is the earth from which we blossom

And the sky we learn fly

The awakened family paves the way for children to own, discover, and express their inner voice, through which they foster connectivity with both their own being and that of others.

What it’s about?

Conscious parenting that isn’t bound by societal expectations, our fears, our egos and generational pressures for perfectionism. It teaches parents to lean into their own “weirdnesses” that is often sparked by their ego’s.

I see the ego as more like a picture of ourselves we carry around in our head — a picture we hold of ourselves that may be far from who we are in our essential being. All of us grow up with such an image of ourselves. This image begins to form when we are young, based largely on our interactions with others.

Three key takeaways:

1. Becoming the parents that our children need is a form of enlightenment.

2. Most of us are imposing our will upon our children, and have trouble giving them the space to thrive.

3. There are things we can start doing today, to change the way we parent for the better. It’s an inside job.

1 Pro?

This book is unbelievably thought-provoking, and changes what it means to be a parent. Upon reading this you will feel calmer, in turn, naturally, so will your children. There’s something to be said about how much your inner-peace affects your children.

The reason the voice in our head causes us to be reactive is that it is rooted in fear. If you listen to the countless things that voice in your head tells you about your children, you’ll discover that they mostly spring from fear. Whether you have inflated, grandiose ideas of your children and what they will accomplish in life or whether you are frightened for them, or disappointed in them, all of this is ultimately rooted in fear.

1 Con?

I’m not crazy about affirmations! But apparently they work. I always feel a tad silly saying things out loud, but this book greatly encourages readers to say a set of phrases and affirmations out loud to help change their subconscious minds around the topic. I guess the con here would be “feeling a tad uncomfortable, awkward and silly doing the work” However, reading the book will inform you that those feelings are all fear-based and come from the very ego, we are trying to overcome.

Affirmation to Raise Oneself

I fully accept that parenting is about raising myself not my child.

I realize that the onus for change lies solely with me, not my child.

I am aware that my struggles are reflections of my inner conflicts.

I will transform each challenge into a question that asks, “What does this say about me?”

Cop it or drop it?

Cop it! This is an important, thought provoking and empowering book. There’s a much less stressful, more effective way to parent, and this book teaches it. I can’t believe how effective the advice has been with my family and I. The Awakened Family is the best parenting book I’ve read in a very long time.
