Real-mom interviews : Meet Dana

Dana is a passionate entrepreneur that has 3 businesses. She had finally cracked the code to financial freedom while working from home and is ready and willing to teach you how you can do the same. Enjoy her informative interview below. I’m grateful for her wealth of knowledge and willingness to share that wealth.

Introduce yourself

My name is Dana and I am a married momma of two little girls who are 4 and 7 years old.  I’m a corporate dropout who has been at home since my oldest daughter was born in June of 2012.    Three years ago I was feeling like I had lost myself and my identity in motherhood and that’s when I was introduced to my industry, and currently operate 3 entrepreneurial businesses from home which include network marketing, business coaching, and I am a freelance Makeup Artist.

Have you always wanted children?

No, I did not always want kids.  Growing up, I was the youngest in my family and for many years I firmly stated that I never wanted to have any kids! My plan was to be a powerhouse CEO working for a large corporation.  Everything changed after my husband and I got married and became good friends with couples who had children, and we watched them walk through some infertility issues.  My husband and I realized that we wanted a family and were ready to start trying

What’s the biggest sacrifice of motherhood to you? How are you coping?

I think the biggest sacrifice of motherhood is your body/personal space and the isolation.

It can be very draining when you feel like your child/children have been physically on you all day long, and even escaping to the bathroom leaves you with two children and two dogs staring at you! Also, a mother’s job is 24 hours a day and my youngest daughter has always been very attached to me which leaves me feeling like the only caretaker at times.  My business has given me an incredible outlet to pour my creative energy into as well as a place to find an amazing community!  I also utilize preschool time to recharge myself and get things done!

What do you love most about being a mom?

The best thing about being a mom is the snuggles and the fact that my babies still need and want their mama.

Seeing their personalities grow and develop is such a rewarding part of being a mom.  Both my girls are strong willed, but my oldest daughter Quinn is my sensitive artist, and my youngest is very analytical but hilarious and is always saying funny things.  Lastly, I love teaching my girls and helping to shape their hearts and their minds.

What lessons and values do you hope to instill in your child?

Our faith is very important to us, so discipling  our children and fostering a love for Jesus is the center of our parenting.  The values that we focus on in our home are respect, compassion, and persistence!  My husband and I are both entrepreneurs and it’s super rewarding to watch our girls work hard to accomplish goals.  My oldest daughter once said to me (which has now become a family mantra) “I’m a McCurdy, and McCurdy’s don’t give up!”

What do you do for a living?

I am passionate about ingredients and living a life free of toxic chemicals and foods.  I work with a clean living health and wellness company and I help families make the switch to healthier affordable products through affiliate style marketing.  I also coach others on starting their own businesses and teach them to make money exactly as I do!  I have also been a makeup artist for a long time, and in my free time I take clients for bridal and special occasion makeup.

What’s the best thing about entrepreneurship?

The best thing about being an entrepreneur is making my own schedule and being able to be home with my girls, as well as knowing that my income is a direct result of my effort and there is no cap.

How long did it take to make a decent salary?

It took just under two years before I started to make money in my network marketing business.  When I started I had no idea what I was doing and was doing everything wrong.  I found the right mentors and coaches and my business and my mindset completely changed, which is why I love coaching and supporting new entrepreneurs so that they can skip all of my mistakes!

Could other moms do what you do?

Absolutely!  I love helping other moms get started in business.  I remember feeling like I had lost some of myself and how it felt to find an awesome community and a way to help provide for my family while being at home.

May we follow you?
